From quantale algebroids to topological spaces: Fixed- and variable-basis approaches

2010

Using the category of quantale algebroids the paper considers a generalization of the classical Papert-Papert-Isbell adjunction between the categories of topological spaces and locales to partial algebraic structures. It also provides a single framework in which to treat the concepts of quasi, standard and stratified fuzzy topology.

L-fuzzy syntopogenous structures, Part I: Fundamentals and application to L-fuzzy topologies, L-fuzzy proximities and L-fuzzy uniformities

2013

Abstract We introduce the concept of an L-fuzzy syntopogenous structure where L is a complete lattice endowed with an implicator ↦ : L × L → L satisfying certain properties (in particular, as L one can take an MV-algebra). As special cases our L-fuzzy syntopogenous structures contain classical Csaszar syntopogenous structures, Katsaras–Petalas fuzzy syntopogenous structures as well as fuzzy syntopogeneous structures introduced in the previous work of the second named author (A. Sostak, Fuzzy syntopogenous structures, Quaest. Math. 20 (1997) 431–461). Basic properties of the category of L-fuzzy syntopogenous spaces are studied; categories of L-fuzzy topological spaces, L-fuzzy proximity spac…

Automatic continuity of generalized local linear operators

1980

In this note, we present a general automatic continuity theory for linear mappings between certain topological vector spaces. The theory applies, in particular, to local operators between spaces of functions and distributions, to algebraic homomorphisms between certain topological algebras, and to linear mappings intertwining generalized scalar operators.

Construction of chaotic dynamical system

2010

The first‐order difference equation xn+ 1 = f(xn ), n = 0,1,…, where f: R → R, is referred as an one‐dimensional discrete dynamical system. If function f is a chaotic mapping, then we talk about chaotic dynamical system. Models with chaotic mappings are not predictable in long‐term. In this paper we consider family of chaotic mappings in symbol space S 2. We use the idea of topological semi‐conjugacy and so we can construct a family of mappings in the unit segment such that it is chaotic. First published online: 09 Jun 2011

On i-topological spaces: generalization of the concept of a topological space via ideals

2006

[EN] The aim of this paper is to generalize the structure of a topological space, preserving its certain topological properties. The main idea is to consider the union and intersection of sets modulo “small” sets which are defined via ideals. Developing the concept of an i-topological space and studying structures with compatible ideals, we are concerned to clarify the necessary and sufficient conditions for a new space to be homeomorphic, in some certain sense, to a topological space.

ON TOPOLOGICAL SPACES WITH A UNIQUE QUASI-PROXIMITY

1994

Abstract Trying to solve the question of whether every T 1 topological space with a unique compatible quasi-proximity should be hereditarily compact, we show that it is true for product spaces as well as for locally hereditarily Lindelof spaces.

Sequential deconfinement in 3d N=2 gauge theories

2021

We consider 3d N = 2 gauge theories with fundamental matter plus a single field in a rank-2 representation. Using iteratively a process of "deconfinement" of the rank-2 field, we produce a sequence of Seiberg-dual quiver theories. We detail this process in two examples with zero superpotential: Usp(2N) gauge theory with an antisymmetric field and U(N) gauge theory with an adjoint field. The fully deconfined dual quiver has N nodes, and can be interpreted as an Aharony dual of theories with rank-2 matter. All chiral ring generators of the original theory are mapped into gauge singlet fields of the fully deconfined quiver dual.

Trapping of three-dimensional electrons and transition to two-dimensional transport in the three-dimensional topological insulator Bi2Se3under high p…

2012

This paper reports an experimental and theoretical investigation on the electronic structure of bismuth selenide (Bi2Se3) up to 9 GPa. The optical gap of Bi2Se3 increases from 0.17 eV at ambient pressure to 0.45 eV at 8 GPa. The quenching of the Burstein-Moss effect in degenerate samples and the shift of the free-carrier plasma frequency to lower energies reveal a quick decrease of the bulk three-dimensional (3D) electron concentration under pressure. On increasing pressure the behavior of Hall electron concentration and mobility depends on the sample thickness, consistently with a gradual transition from mainly 3D transport at ambient pressure to mainly two-dimensional (2D) transport at hi…

Topological Logics with Connectedness over Euclidean Spaces

2013

We consider the quantifier-free languages, Bc and Bc °, obtained by augmenting the signature of Boolean algebras with a unary predicate representing, respectively, the property of being connected, and the property of having a connected interior. These languages are interpreted over the regular closed sets of R n ( n ≥ 2) and, additionally, over the regular closed semilinear sets of R n . The resulting logics are examples of formalisms that have recently been proposed in the Artificial Intelligence literature under the rubric Qualitative Spatial Reasoning. We prove that the satisfiability problem for Bc is undecidable over the regular closed semilinear sets in all dimensions greater than 1,…

Lieb polariton topological insulators

2018

We predict that the interplay between the spin-orbit coupling, stemming from the TE-TM energy splitting, and the Zeeman effect in semiconductor microcavities supporting exci- ton-polariton quasi-particles results in the appearance of unidirectional linear topological edge states when the top microcavity mirror is patterned to form a truncated dislocated Lieb lattice of cylindrical pillars. Periodic nonlinear edge states are found to emerge from the linear ones. They are strongly localized across the interface and they are remarkably robust in comparison to their counterparts in hexagonal lattices. Such robustness makes possible the existence of nested unidirectional dark solitons that move …
